FAQs
What can I expect when I visit?
We will spend some time discussing your your reasons for treatment - this might include activity or posture related aches and pains, issues relating to exercise or sport, chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia or headache, stress, anxiety and other mental health related problems, as well as your lifestyle circumstances. Clients seek treatment for all sorts of different reasons! Clinical massage therapy takes on board the spectrum of physical, psychological, emotional and social factors that influence our wellbeing and how we experience pain.
We will discuss your current medical circumstances and also assess movement and posture where appropriate.
A massage treatment will be provided along with a discussion of a plan to help your progression.
Is treatment painful?
We all experience pain very differently - what one person finds unbearably painful another will feel only as light pressure. For the most part the treatment I provide would not be painful. Some techniques can cause more discomfort but clear communication between myself and a client means that treatment will not become too painful to you.
What should I wear?
Wear the clothes that you are comfortable in. Something that is loose, allows you to move freely and that is ease to change into and out of is perfect.
During treatment you will be asked to remove some clothing and this is usually determined by the treatment we agree. You will only ever be asked to undress to the level that you are comfortable with and you will never be asked to remove knickers, briefs or shorts.
Who is treatment for?
I treat people from all walks of life! Recently I have treated men and women of all ages and including office workers, plumbers, electricians, home makers, nurses, firefighters, retail workers, hairdressers, dog groomers, dentists, farmers, yoga instructors, counsellors, teachers, the retired…and massage therapists! Swimmers, footballers, rugby players, golfers, runners, gym enthusiasts, hockey players, walkers….and those less active! Massage therapy is for all of us.
I have long hair?
Don’t worry! It is often easier to leave long hair down unless you would like to avoid getting oil or product in the hair. If you are more comfortable with your hair up that is okay too. I will always ask if you are happy for me to work into your hair but I do suggest you don’t wash your hair immediately before your appointment as you may wish to do so after your massage.
